ALYS METCALF

Alys is a Welsh writer (although spent some of her formative years living on a tiny island in The Isles of Scilly). She's an alumni of BBC Cornish Voices group and BBC Comedy Room. Alys currently has a script under commission. She's working with TV companies Clerkenwell on an adaptation and Bad Wolf on an original drama. Her sitcom, The Home, was optioned by Hartswood Films and she has developed sitcoms with Objective and Merman Films. She's written several Beginner’s Guides and Recaps for the BBC including Peaky Blinders: Ultimate Recap, Beginner's Guide to Silent Witness, and Beginner’s Guide to Line of Duty, (which won a Lovie Award for Branded Viral Video).

She is currently developing feature film Little Rock with Blue Horizon Productions, funded by Ffilm Cymru. Her interactive story, The Act, was commissioned by BBC Taster. Her short film, Remnants, was screened at The Hackney Empire as part of the London Short Film Festival and won the main award for Best Film and Best Writing in the International 100 Hour Film Racing competition. Alys has also been part of the writers’ room for BBC Radio Wales’s topical comedy show, The Leak.

As a playwright, Alys's play YOU 2.0 was commissioned by National Theatre Connections for the 2025 programme. She is currently in R&D for a new play with Theatr Clwyd. Her play Leopards was on at Rose Theatre in 2021, produced by Francesca Moody Productions and Rose Theatre, in association with Kater Gordon. Other theatre writing includes sell-out hit, You Only Live Forever at SOHO Theatre; Reel Life at Ustinov Studio Theatre Royal Bath; and Unearthed, (UK Tour).

Alys recently appeared on a select panel of emerging screenwriters for the London Film Festival. She trained under the Royal Court Young Writers and Criterion Theatre writing programmes. She is a recipient of two Peggy Ramsay Awards.
